Build a Blogger Mini-Site
Greetings,
I wanted to add a page separate from the home page.. The key is I want the page to use the style template and I would add as a link on a side nav. In essense I am trying to build a mini-site and still take advantage of blog features (and host the thing on blogspot! :)
Do you have recommendation on the best way to do this or are you aware of a hack for this? I know Wordpress offers this so I might switch to them.
My response was:
A while ago I made a separate page for a blogroll group. Look on my blog sidebar under 'Random Sidebar Clutter' and find +/- ::PowderPuff Geeks:: blogroll . Expand that section and click on ::Join PowderPuff Geeks:: That takes you to the other 'Mini-Blog' which has the same format (when I set it up) as BlogU. I included a 'Return Home' link at the bottom of the page. I did that by adding the following code in the post editor after the post:
<h2 class="sidebar-title"><a href="http://bloggeruniversity.blogspot.com"><< Return Home</a></h2>You can see how it links from the sidebar in BlogU to the PowderPuff page.
To create a Mini-Site:
- Create a new blog, which will become your Mini-Blog.
- Copy your template from the main blog and paste it into a new blog.
- Remove the elements you don't want on the Mini-Blog, if any.
- Add the return home link as described above to the Mini-Blog.
- Add a link in the Main Blog sidebar to the Mini-Blog, and you are done.
Aha! Brilliant, fake it with a new blog!!! Your suggestion is exactly what I was looking for.
Great job,
Mark

Hi Annie,
I would add to this with two other solutions. You could create a blog post inside your current blog, and in the menubar provide a link to this post. That's the way I set up the Wish List Page and the Downloads Page in my blog.
Second, you could set up a web page with some other hosting provider, and use the same CSS on these pages. You could blend the 2 of them seamlessly.
@hans, Love both ideas...especially the link back to the post! Thanks.
Hi Annie, I have used both Hans' menubar idea and your mini-blog idea.
Both work well.
For certain internal 'pages' I turn off comments so that the focus is on the message and not conversation. This is good for rules/policy pages.
I created a basic blog aggregator site called BBD Blog Feeds. It's more of a static site than a blog.
Hey Annie that's a pretty cool idea. If they ever get around to making Google Pages a lot more customizable I'm sure blog hackers would probably think of a lot of cool ways to integrate them into blogger.
Anyway I just wanted to come by again and say thanks for the time you put into sharing info. I've been playing around with your hacks on one of my blogs and I've managed to get the columns similar to yours. The difference is that I put my widebar below my two sidebars. I just need to tweak it a little to get it to show right in IE.
I couldn't have done it without reading all of the Blogger hacks blogs and yours in particular Thanks.
@mr. brownthumb, I'm with you about the Google Pages. I can't figure out how to use that to save my life. I would love to just be able to upload a file that I can make accessible to others. I have tried a couple of times, and just gave up. But, then, I didn't try that hard, lol.
How do you like the widebar below your sidebars? I had mine all over the place, but decided on the top. I found I had a problem with the layout of the label pages when the post was short the left and right sidebars would shift under my post. Drove me crazy. So, I made a Postbar. Here is more about it: Postbar - Something New!
I'm really glad that you are finding my blog useful! Keep up the good work with your blog. I love reading your posts. And my plants appreciate it too.
Hii annie,
How could i get the Bookmarks like you have on your blog ??? is there any tutorial ??

@elinena, click on 'Expand/Collapse' in my tag cloud. There is also a way to add links from the dashboard> page elements> add an element> links.
I did the same thing but thought I was faking:) Just realized thats the way and it did make me feel so good!
Is there a way to get "Return Home" somewhere else....such as, after rather than before the comment link section?
annie... i was thinking of buying a custom domain for my blog. i was thinking of buying it from go daddy since it's cheaper. but is it just the domain name that i'm buying? or the hosting thing something? confused!

oke thx bro
Blogspot is cool. Nice post!
Nice little post I use wordpress for the multisite network function myself. I've never tried blogger but I think I still prefer wordpress. Only because I can have a top level domain name.
