Painless Blog Posting
Did you know that Blogger (beta and orginal flavors) both have a built in setting that takes some of the hassle out of posting? The feature that I have in mind is found on the dashboard under Settings/ Formatting/ Post Templates. For example, on this blog, I often use a pullquote. So, I take this code:
<p class="pullquote">and paste it in the Post Templates box. After I save the settings, the code is in place. When I write a post, I type in the Title and Text of the pullquote. Automatically, I will have a pullquote in my post. (Assuming I have the correct code in place in my CSS style sheet. See Visual Interest - Pullquotes for simple instructions.) You can then cut and paste the code to the area of the post you want it to show up.
<span >Title</span>
<span >"</span>
Text
<span style="font-size:large;">"</span>
</p>
On my other blog, Buttermilk Clouds, I always start the post with a photograph. So, in that blog's Post Template box I add this code:
<image class="centered"alt="title" src="URL" />
Post templates help users save time by pre-formatting the post editor.
All I have to do is put in the image URL and write the title of the picture.
This speeds up the posting process and makes posting a breeze. I can never remember the simpliest of codes, and I was forever looking up the code. Now, all my most used codes are in place and waiting.
On the chance I don't want a pullquote or a photo, all I do is delete the code from the post box when I create a post. A simplier process than looking for code to put in!

Hi Annie,
I'm new to your blog and think it is great and very informative. Just wondering if this "post template-pull quote" trick is needed when blogging from email or flock to blogger?
Thanks!
@Patty, this is really 'needed' at all. It just makes things easier when posting.
Ah, yes. Good shortcut. I have my signature code on my post template; so I don't have to add it manually to each post.
One day I shall try the pullquotes too!
Thanks!
gawd, u made me realise this function. i once used it but had forgotten about this. thanks alot for reminding me

Before I have not even thinked to use templates, but now I have to take that in to the consideration. Thank for the great tip.
Nice tip, I always use the same post layout, so its about time I think about using templates to speed up the content writing process for my blogs.
”All I have to do is put in the image URL and write the title of the picture.“
Could you please tell me how to use it when writing the post? What do you mean "put in the image URL and write the title of picture?"
I wanted to know how post templates is actually being used?
Thanks

@kalaqie, Where it says URL, you put the address of your image, but that is only if you host your images someplace else.
The post template is just that...like a blank form that is there each time you write a post. You fill in the blanks or remove what you don't want to use.
Thanks for that, it was what i'm looking for!
Thanks for this nice post.
The pull quote is a clever use of the posts template tool that I've never considered. Great tip. I used to use the post template when creating multi-part blog tutorials. I would create a post to serve as the index or table of contents for the tutorial, and then I'd use the post template to put a call-to-action under each lesson (with a link back to the table of contents). I like the pull quote idea too -- a nice way to enhance each post.
Thanks for this information.This tip is very helpful to newbie bloggers.
Woah! That's awesome! I gotta say it's always been taking me so much time to do manualy. Thanks for posting more automated way.
I am sorry but I do not agree that you can have a painless blogging. I do agree that all new plug-ins do help in making blogging a less painful experience.
Nice trick / short cut to getting blog up a running asap.
