Make an Archive Page in Blogger

I'm working on Sharondipity Photography. In the process I wanted to put the archive in a blogger page that was visible only when the Archive Page link was clicked. This is how I made an Archive Page.

Before you begin, save your template by going to Dashboard | Design | Edit HTML | Download Full Template. Now you are ready.

1. Go to Dashboard | Design | Page Elements. Now click on Add a Gadget. It doesn't matter where, because you are going to make this gadget disappear everywhere except your Archive Page.

2. Locate your CSS Style Sheet. The very last part you will see </b:skin>. You will place this code directly under it:
<b:if cond='data:blog.url != "YOUR ARCHIVE PAGE URL"'>

<b:else/>

</b:if>
Save.

3. Go to Dashboard | Posting | Edit Pages | Create a Page. Leave it blank...just give it a title. Archives will do nicely. Publish page | Save and Publish | Choose Blog Sidebar or Blog Tab | View Page. Copy the Archive page URL that is in the address bar. It should look like http://YOUR BLOG.blogspot.com/p/archive.html.

4. Go back to your CSS style sheet and paste that URL in the above code. Save your template!

Now, when you are on your home page, you will only see the Archive link either in your sidebar or blog tab. When you click on it then the archives will be visible.

  2. I've finally created an Archives Page and am so exhilarated with the result, especially a long-awaited one for my Blogger blogs! Some may name it Table of Contents, Index or Sitemap Page instead. Have a peek and you too may fall for one, yes? Confident that some bloggers would, I simply couldn't resist sharing this goody here. :-)

  3. Thanks for this tip.. I will put it up on my blogger blog. I have a blog where I need to send the posts of one particular category (only) by email. But Feedburner sends all the posts. Can that be restricted to posts from one category? Thanks for any help.

  14. You’re right. It really depends on what a person wants to do with a blog and how far they plan to take it. Many people blog for the fun of it, but if someone wants a blog to become their bread and butter, obviously they’ll need to buckle down and learn all the ins and outs.

    I don’t know of anyone who quit their job to blog full-time, however I’ve heard of many who, because of their blog, were able to quit their day job. (Of course, it took time.)

    A wonderful and informative tip! You are absolutely right. Blogging depends on the person creating the posts. A lot of people blog for the fun of it. Some want to share their experiences and find blogging as a good outlet. Others take to blogging as a source of income and I think that no matter the reason, it is always a good thing to know what you're getting into and what better way than to find articles like yours that have helpful tips and guides.

Due to,happily, a steadily increasing readership, I'm not able to answer or solve all comments/problems. I do keep track of them and answer what I can as time allows. This is my attempt to balance home and blog.
